From Scared Scribbler to Published Author: My Writing Journey
In the messy world of creating things, I found a magic sentence that lit my path like a star: “Forget waiting for inspiration! Just write every day, even when you don’t feel like it. That habit will keep you going, help you finish your stories, and make them shine. Inspiration won’t. It’s all about showing up and practicing.” These words became my guide as a writer, poet, and content creator.
Sure, making things sound beautiful and meaningful might seem easy, but any writer knows it’s a wild ride. My journey from scribbling newbie to confident wordsmith was like a total transformation! Buckle up, and I’ll share the story of my adventure.
Back in 2016, I was totally hooked on the words of amazing poets like Jaun Elia, Gulzar Sahab, and Dr. Rahat Indori. Their poems were like beautiful tapestries, weaving stories and feelings in simple yet powerful ways. Inspired by them, I started writing my own stuff too, mostly short poems and “Shayari” (a kind of Indian poetry), just like my idols. My words were simple, just like theirs, but with my own touch.
Instead of just reading other people’s poems, I started writing my own! I wasn’t just consuming words anymore, I was paying attention to everything around me and turning it into my own poems. Each poem was like a piece of me, showing my thoughts and feelings, and how much those amazing poets I loved inspired me. This wasn’t just about writing poems, it was about finding my own voice and becoming a real poet myself.
College at Delhi University was awesome, and after graduating, I still wanted to learn more. So, I packed my bags and headed to Sydney, Australia, for a fancy Master’s degree! Living in this amazing city with people from all over the world sparked something new in me, and I wrote my third book of poems called “Talaash- Nayi Duniya Ki,” which means “Search for a New World.”
In Sydney, where people from everywhere brought their own ideas and energy, my writing really took off. Living abroad was like being inside a giant furnace, pushing me to change and grow as a writer. My third book, “Talaash- Nayi Duniya Ki,” is all about exploring different cultures and learning from people from all over the world.
Back in India, I studied for my MBA, but I never stopped writing or performing poetry. The thing is, I used to be terrified of performing in front of people! But I really wanted to overcome that fear, so I started going to open mic nights, just to watch at first.
At these open mic nights, I learned how to be comfortable on stage and connect with the audience. It was scary at first, but everyone there loved poetry and was really supportive. Finally, in June 2018, I gathered my courage and did my first ever open mic performance! It was a huge win, not just because I faced my fear, but also because I shared my poetry with everyone and they loved it!
My first open mic was nerve-wracking! My hands shook, but I powered through and did my best. From there, it was like a switch flipped. Now, I love performing my poetry everywhere, from open mics to fancy events and competitions. I’ve done over a hundred open mics and been in tons of shows and competitions, even while studying for my MBA! I even performed at big places like the University College of Medical Science and Netaji Subhash University of Technology. Talk about showcasing my poetry prowess!
My writing became my way to talk about everything: love, heartbreak, even what’s happening in the world. My poems got published in a bunch of books, including three of my own! They even ended up in newspapers! Not bad for someone who just started playing with words.
And the awards kept rolling in! It wasn’t just about writing poems anymore, I even got to be a judge at big poetry events like the Kavyanjali IIT Kanpur Fest and the Delhi University Moti Lal Nehru College poetry event. It was amazing to see other poets and share my love for poetry in a different way. All these awards and events, they’re like chapters in my story, showing how my words went from paper to finding a voice in the real world.
I work for a software company in the USA, but writing is still my biggest passion! Right now, I’m busy writing a novel that’s coming out in 2024, super exciting! I also work with Qrencia, an online platform for writers. As their Brand Ambassador and writing expert, I help run writing contests and teach courses on how to write stories and poems. It’s awesome to help other people discover their love for words and even conquer their stage fright!
I also share my poems online on apps like Nojoto and Yourquote, so people from all over can read them. It was amazing when my poems even got featured in the “Kavya” section of Amar Ujala, a big Hindi newspaper! Seeing my work in such established places makes me want to keep writing and getting better!
My writing journey has been one of growth, hard work, and a whole lot of love for words! Each one I write tells the story of how I started small, kept practicing, and never gave up, even when I didn’t feel inspired. Looking back, it’s been like an amazing adventure, uncovering who I am as a writer, facing my fears, and finding happiness in sharing my words with others. And it’s all thanks to writing every day, no matter what!
The secret sauce of my writing journey? Just writing every day, like clockwork! Even when I didn’t feel like it, those quiet moments spent with words became my happy place. It wasn’t about waiting for inspiration to strike, it was about making writing a habit, a daily date with my keyboard. This routine became the backbone of my creative journey, helping me grow even when I felt stuck. As I kept writing every day, my skills got sharper and my voice became more true to who I am. Pretty cool, right?
But going from newbie to decent writer wasn’t a straight shot. There were bumps in the road, self-doubt, and the scary feeling of putting myself out there. It was like my mind had a big STOP sign! But the habit I built, of writing every day, kept me going. And slowly, I learned to face that fear of sharing my true self. Writing down my deepest thoughts and emotions wasn’t easy, but it was a major win against my own doubts.
My writing adventure turned into a journey of self-discovery! Words became my mirror, showing me different sides of myself. They helped me understand my feelings, figure out who I am, and paint pictures of my thoughts. Each sentence was like a brushstroke, revealing not just what happened to me, but also how it all changed me inside. Pretty deep, huh?
But the best part? Sharing my words with others! At first, it was scary, but then it became amazing to see people connect with my writing. It was like my words went on an adventure of their own, making people feel things and think new thoughts. And that feeling, knowing my words could touch others, just made me want to write even more! It’s like a circle: I write, you read, we both feel good, and I write even more!
The adventure continues! Now, I’m about to publish my first novel, which is super exciting! It took a lot of work, late nights, and letting my imagination run wild to get here. Sharing this story with the world is both scary and awesome, and it feels like the beginning of something new. Like I’m about to climb another mountain in the world of writing! Buckle up, everyone, because the next chapter is just starting!
In my story, writing has been like weaving a colorful quilt. The threads of habit, persistence, self-discovery, and the joy of sharing are all intertwined, creating a tale that goes beyond just words on paper. It’s a testament to how writing can transform a person, a journey from being a beginner to becoming someone skilled with words. As I look ahead, holding my pen, the blank pages in front of me are like a playground of endless possibilities. The words that I’ll write in the future will carry the beat of my growth, my determination, and my lasting love for writing.
Think of creativity like a confusing maze. Every part of my journey shows a dedication to keep going, where making writing a habit was like having a reliable friend guiding me through the twists and turns. Starting from shyly getting inspired by great poets to standing confidently on big stages, each poem written, every stage faced, and every achievement earned has been like adding colors to a painting. It tells a story of not giving up, of following my passion, and always chasing after the joy that comes with creating art.
My story continues, and the next part is in the pages of my new book. It’s like a tall building, showing how strong habits, not giving up, and a deep love for writing are. When I think about where I’ve been, I’m not just Love Joshi, the person who writes poems and stories. I’m proof that words have a lot of power, and I’ve gone from just making it a habit to getting really good at it. Every word I write tells a bit of my story, showing how I’ve grown and kept being creative. It’s like making a beautiful picture with all the threads of dedication and the fun of being creative.
