Miracles Over a Cup of Cappuccino by Manu Kumar Lal serves the reader every spice and sugar they crave. For a fiction lover like me, this book has everything you look out for. Richly developed stories, well-connected plot, surprises and purpose, and most importantly a feeding hunger hidden in the interesting plot, written in such a way that you will look forward to reading.
I hesitate to describe this book as a ‘fiction’ novel simply because I believe the stories mentioned in the book are just not stories, they are real pieces carved in the form of stories. Not spilling too many spoilers, I would decode the book.
Let’s start with the first page which is chapter one of the book ‘Stranger in the Night’, the way the story starts will surely leave you wondering if is it a thriller novel or a haunted one. But let me warn you it is not. That’s the beauty of the book I was talking about it is every spice and sugar one needs.
As a reader, I loved how the stories inside the book give you a feeling of a series novel. I thoroughly enjoyed the coffee house setting which is the main attraction in the book. Every story revolves around the coffee house and cappuccino. The entry of different characters with different places and each of them with different stories is what will keep you intact throughout the reading journey.
Every story has a lesson that embarks on, not just for the protagonist of the story but for the readers too.
This book is about a man Aryamann who has lost faith in life. The beginning of the main story plot revolves around this man, his life’s issues, and battles. Aryamann’s personal life is at stake dealing with anxiety and depression is a clear sign one will get to know while reading the book. It is reflected through the writer’s style of writing and the consciously mentioned battle the protagonist is going through. A very critical issue is being pointed out without being put into effort. People dealing with depression and anxiety have a lot to go through in life. The unsaid pain and daily struggles of a man in his life, his everyday effort to live a life, to renew, and to give himself and his life a chance is worth reading.
A book filled with stories of struggle and pain, efforts and change, faith and miracle. Yes, the miracle is the core of the book, the heart of stories and life of the lives in real. The book is filled with extraordinary stories of miracles in the lives of ordinary people like you and me. However, the plot in every story serves the same purpose of landing on the same peripheral ideas about life and struggle, and the end is an outcome of a miracle.

How much control does one have over their lives? Do you believe every outcome good or bad is only the result of your hard work or is it sometimes unusual you feel is happening and barely have any answers to it? What is it then? Fate…Luck…or Miracle? Or you don’t even believe in it. One must not have seen Miracle. However, each one of us at some point in life must have felt it.
The protagonist of the novel Aryamann, coming across each individual in the coffee house is an intricate part of the whole theme. However, how Aryamann gives himself a chance to change his life get back to a normal life, and restart his happy marriage.
Visiting every day to the same place (the cafe) Aryamann’s life starts to change, meeting new people, listening to their stories, how destiny changes its ways, and how miracles pull them out of their struggles and pain. The journey of Aryamann’s healing through the reading of self-help books and different human stories connected to faith and miracles will leave you amazed. Slowly and gradually as the story moves forward carrying each miraculous story of different individuals Aryamann meets in the café will deepen your interest in the next story and connection.
While relating to the stories mentioned in the book, I have a few favorites among them the first story ‘Blessing in Disguise’ is completely a surprising story of kindness and will leave you with an lesson unforgettable.
Among the list of my personal favorites is the ‘Value of Time’, again a beautifully thought and nicely crafted story that realizes one the power of the creator or you may also call it the ‘miracle’.
‘Birth of a Blessing’ is among those written pieces I will keep at heart. The power of nature is so brilliantly captured in this written frame that you even forget that it’s just not a story. The realness is so closely felt in this particular story in the book.

Not simply just a book of stories, plots, and characters this reading piece includes the thrill of every genre. The surprising elements unfold bit by bit, from one story to another story. The relationship and connection each story has is flawless. When can experience the roller-coaster ride? the book gives you, only when you dive in deeper.
Explaining the crux could never be enough for a reader unless one reads it completely and thoroughly.
Apart from the individual stories inside, one major thing that is commendable is the climax. Although it seems to appeal as an ending, it is not. Surprisingly, moving toward the end of the story will leave you wanting for more. The characters in the end give rise to a new angle and maybe to a new beginning. No more spoilers now!
This book is a complete world of fantasy, that does give one the reality check. Twirling between the worlds of fantasy and reality it becomes difficult to relate at times, and the very immediate second it has the power to make you believe in something you don’t consider to be real. Each story in the book has a relation to faith and miracles, for a person who is spiritual and believes in faith can easily sum up the story with its beliefs. But someone who is way too pragmatic may not agree with everything happening inside the head of the writer. However, considering all its facts and notions it is completely a book of faith and belief. Just like the notion of the creator and God in the world.
Not forgetting the punches mentioned in the book in the form of quotes is also one of the factors that make it a holistic reading piece. With every written story inside there are quotes and phrases attached to it giving the story a meaningful twist.
Summarizing the book is way too difficult as every reader takes something different with itself.
The writer’s thoughtful mind has creatively tried involving very crucial topics of today’s world and generation is ignorant about. The process of loneliness and the aftermath is so beautifully turned into a story that one can think about it a hundred times. The belief of one person and the urge to change himself, and give himself a chance to restart a life is itself a commendable step. Everything that follows is a real miracle in life. Having the guts to initialize one life process and following others, stories as a motivating factor have given this book a real road map. Trust, hope, and faith all combine to form a miracle in life. And above all the crucial part is acceptance to agree to one’s fallout in life.
This book is for everyone who believes in faith, and hope. And also, for the ones who are ignorant of this. Your every act is the byproduct of what you do and what you choose. But the times when nothing seems right, miracles happen then. The believers of hope and faith name it a miracle. The non-believers tag it as a coincidence. But it is what it is. Give it a shot, it is worth the reading.
Miracles happen to those who believe in them. Start believing and start hoping, and the next thing that you will find is a miracle that barely has a name. Give it one ‘hope’.
