Lekhak – Deepti

I read a quote once, “Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore”. I would relate my journey very closely to this quote. With a strong work experience in hand and a close possibility of receiving my due promotion, I received the biggest news of my life, which changed my entire world. Yes, I was expecting my first child – the love of my life.

I started working right after high school and continued until my daughter was born. Managing the household to decide what to do next was a game changer. But as all say, God always has some different plans for you. I had never written a story or an article, let alone the dream of becoming a content writer. So, how it started – with a Facebook post.

A couple of years after leaving my job, I was occupied with raising my daughter (and I can say proudly that I raised a mini version of myself). However, with time, she needed me less, and I had the urge to do something else. So, one fine day, while surfing my FB posts, I came across a post where a lady was looking for people who could write SOPs for her. Unaware of what it meant, I decided to give it a try.

I never knew how my one email would change my life, and someone who was always in love with the full-time corporate world would look ahead to explore the magical world of WORDS

I still feel grateful for how that lady taught me and hand-holded me in becoming what I am today. I started to write for her and made a hell of a lot of mistakes. Mistakes were of all types – grammatical, punctuation, spelling, formation, etc. However, not once did she say you are not a good fit and continued giving me work month-on-month.

I worked with her for around one year and wrote many SOPs, resumes and short blogs. Even though what I used to get as a payout was not even 10% of what I made during my corporate world, I was happy with what I was doing. Most importantly, I was there for my daughter and was working both at the same time.

This one episode made me realize I do have the potential to write, and I began my journey of exploring this beautiful world.

Since then, I have been writing off and on and for the last 2 years, I have been working as a full-time freelance content writer. I have written multiple articles and blogs, SOPs and even drafted a handful of resumes. Even though I am still nowhere close to what I used to make from my full-time job, I am happy and CONTENT.

There are multiple clients that I have worked with and hope to work with in the future. What excites me the most about this platform is how you can grow each day while working. And maybe that is the reason I do not restrict myself to one particular niche or topic. I have written on multiple niches and want to continue doing the same.

When you write on different segments, you open a space to learn and explore. Before entering the content writing field, there were many areas which I did not know. But today, I can discuss such areas without feeling left out. This is why I decided to become a writer and would want to continue doing it forever.

A few areas that I explored in the last 2 years are – travel, health, fitness, relationship, crypto, accounting, law, fin-tech, blockchain, marketing, movies, web series, OTT, organic products, food, entertainment, politics (only a few), and much more.

I am happy that I met a few people who gave me the opportunity to work for some great brands, such as Paytm and ITC, to name a few. I have thoroughly enjoyed crafting such articles, and it gives me a sense of accomplishment when my client comes back to me and says they liked my writing.

Although, the journey is not always happy, and there are certain ups and downs. However, I am utterly proud of what I achieved so far and how I have retained some of the best clients in this process.

There is no better feeling than your client saying, I need you to complete this project, whether you do it today or tomorrow. Yes, that is what one of my clients tells me anytime I refuse him, saying I have a bandwidth issue. He always checks with me first whether or not I am available to take on his project, and then he moves to his next writer.

I believe my client’s trust is my biggest achievement to date. No matter what topic they give me, I will continue to write until it makes me happy to write and them happy to read.

Happy Writing.
